Pick of the Week: L. Aubry Fils 1er Cru Brut NV

Note: This was my pick of the week some weeks back, but I neglected to add it to my blog.

When most people think of Champagne, Moët, Veuve Clicquot, Dom Perignon, and Cristal are often the first names that come to mind, thanks in part to popular culture. While these larger Champagne houses produce consistently good wine, they use grapes from dozens of different vineyards to create a wine with a similar taste profile from year to year. A singular large Champagne house may use grapes from up to 80 vineyards. Don’t get me wrong, I love a bottle of Veuve from time to time. But the true gems of the Champagne industry are Grower Champagnes. These Champagnes are made from grapes from a single vineyard. The winemakers are growing, cultivating, and handpicking their own grapes. They produce artisanal, higher quality Champagne than their larger counterparts. One of my favorite Grower Champagnes is our Aubry Fils 1er Cru Brut NV. Aubry Fils is located in Montagne de Reims, and is one of the oldest estates in Champagne. The Aubry 1er Cru Brut NV has a beautiful golden color and a fine bead. On the palate, there are characteristics of baked green apple, lemon, toasted brioche, and a kiss of honey. It has a long, creamy finish. Regularly on our bottle list for $89, enjoy it now for only $44.50, as we celebrate our “Champagne Campaign” with half off bottles until the end of the calendar year.

À votre santé!
